Progressive Jackpots information

Progressive Jackpot is a Jackpot (highest payoff) for a gaming machine (usually a slot machine or video poker machine), even making some players winners and instant millionaires. As the name states, these 3 and 5 Reel slots have a progressing Jackpot that is constantly climbing. The more people play, the higher the Jackpot climbs until there is a winner, and then it starts over again. The Jackpot is not the only amount open to be won and players have been know to walk away with a hefty amount sometimes in the tens and hundreds of thousands.

Progressive Jackpots come in all shapes and sizes. Many people are familiar with Progressive Jackpots for Slots games or Jackpot slots. There are many Progressive Jackpot networks in the popular Las Vegas casinos that pay a cumulative Progressive Jackpot on slots. Many online casinos offer Progressive slots Jackpots of varying sizes as well.

Almost all casinos offer a Progressive Jackpot on Caribbean Stud Poker, which is paid out if a player receives a royal flush, if the player has bet on the Progressive. What makes Progressive Jackpots so exciting is the opportunity to make a very large win, since every hand played contributes a portion of the bet to the Progressive Jackpot. In some cases the Progressive Jackpot is even comprised of a portion of every hand played over multiple casinos that are acting in partnership, at least for purposes of the Progressive Jackpot.

How Progressive Slot Games Work

For every bet placed on a Progressive slot machine, a small proportion is added to a Jackpot fund. This fund grows until one lucky player lands the Jackpot.

This means that the Jackpots can grow to enormous amounts before they are won, especially if multiple machines, and even multiple casinos, are linked into the same Progressive Jackpot.

Progressive Jackpots Tips

  • Play max coins on Slots: If the Progressive Jackpot you are trying to win is a Slot machine, then you must play max coins. Even if you hit on the winning combination of reels for the Jackpot, you will not win it if you did not play the maximum amount of coins. You will still win some money, just not the big win you were likely hoping for.
  • Play max paylines on Slots: If you are using a Video Slot machine with a Progressive Jackpot, then you must make sure not only to play the max amount of coins, but the max amount of paylines as well. If you play max coins but only one line out of say five, then you may not win, even if a winning combo hits on a payline. The only way you win is if a winning combo hits on a payline that you have actually paid for. So always play max paylines or you will walk away with far less than you thought- or possibly nothing.
  • Go for highest hand in Poker: If you come up with a high pair in Poker or Video Poker, you must still break up that pair to go for a higher hand. If you hold a pair and then draw, you will never win the Progressive Jackpot, as you must get a Royal Flush in order to win the biggest payout. Having one or two pairs may get you a payout, but it will never be the biggest one possible unless you break up the pairs and go for the big hand. You may lose some money but in the long run, if you hit a Royal Flush, you will be happy you did.
  • Make sure you do the side bet, if applicable: Some games, such as Caribbean Stud Poker that may be Progressive require that you make a separate side bet in order to win the Progressive Jackpot. If you do not do this, you will not win the Jackpot, even if you hit on a huge winning hand. You will still win the amount for that hand, yes. But no Progressive Jackpot. So make sure you make that side bet in games like that.
  • Have a separate budget just for Progressive games: Though this is not necessary, if you want to walk away with at least some money in your pocket, it’s a good idea. Reason is that Progressive Jackpots do not hit everyday, so you can play an entire day at the same game without winning. You may win smaller amounts, but not the Jackpot. Therefore, set aside a certain amount to play Progressives with and a separate budget for other games, that way you don’t spend all your time on one game and you have the chance to win other, smaller amounts by not always going for the biggest hands. This will ensure that you continue to have fun, which is what gambling should be about.

Qualify to win the Casino Jackpot

Usually only players who wager the maximum number of credits per play qualify to win the Jackpot. All wagers, whether or not they're max credit bets, contribute to the Jackpot though. As a result, a game which requires a 10 credit wager to qualify for the Progressive Jackpot will tend to have the Progressive Jackpot rise to higher levels (relative to its break-even level) than a game that requires only a 5 credit wager to qualify.
